David was predeceased by the love of his life, Anna, his parents; Jacob and Anna Dyck, three brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren; Baby Ivanowich and Michael Tennyson and his good friend John Lukinchuk.
David was born on July 17, 1925 in Roland, Manitoba and moved to Orley, Saskatchewan when he was around 10 years of age. David met the love of his life, Anna at the Orley train station when she was sixteen and this began their incredible love story. Anna and David were married on a cold day in December 1947 and were blessed with 69 years together. He worked on many farms in the Orley area and worked in the bush cutting and selling wood. He heard from his brother that there was work in Dryden so he packed up his family and moved to Dryden in 1950. David started his career at the local paper mill in construction and then moved into the shipping department where he worked for 36 years before taking early retirement . When David retired he enjoyed woodworking and made many cedar chests and toy boxes for family and friends. After suffering his first stroke and losing his ability to drive himself wherever he wanted to go he purchased a scooter and enjoyed cruising the streets of North Dryden. He spent his last month in hospital and was always ready with a big smile when the nurses would come. He joked that he should’ve gotten a bell sooner. He appreciated all they did for him, especially the warm blankets and back scratches.
David took pride in being an outstanding husband, excellent father and caring friend to many. David enjoyed gardening, reading and doing puzzles while drinking his coffee. From 1962 on he spent most of his summers out at their cottage on Thunder Lake when he wasn’t travelling to Saskatchewan, Alberta or British Columbia to visit family. David faithfully attended the First Baptist Church and cherished his church family. David’s grandchildren were his greatest joy and he always enjoyed telling them stories from his youth. He loved his great grandchildren and cherished looking at all their photos.
His stories and wisdom will live on forever in the hearts of his family and he will be lovingly missed.
