Elementary teachers in Ontario will start work-to-rule strike action on Tuesday Nov 26.
Sam Hammond is the President of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario and he says members will be withdrawing from Ministry and school board administrative activities.
Hammond stresses students won’t be impacted.
He says their goal is to turn up the heat on the Premier and Education Minister, noting it’s critical that they finally come to contact talks prepared to address the real concerns.
Outstanding issues include more supports for students with special needs, the protection of the Kindergarten program and critical issues like addressing violence in schools.
Hammond says the provincial government has provided nothing but evasive non-answers on teachers concerns during contract negotiations.
Talks have been continuing this week.
It was announced on November 1st that members voted 98% of strike action.
