Cell phones are no longer allowed in Ontario classrooms.
Today (Monday) is the day the provincial government’s new restriction on mobile devices in classrooms comes into effect.
Phones can only be used during class for educational purposes as directed by the teacher, health and medical purposes or to support special education needs.
The change comes as a result of provincial consultation on education reform which found that 97% of parents, students and educators said there should be some sort of restriction on the use of cell phones at school.
The province’s minister of education says students, parents, educators and administrators need to work together to embrace a new culture of learning.
Today, our cell phone restrictions come into effect in classrooms across Ontario, with exceptions for health, medical and special education needs. https://t.co/jBieadoLLX
