This is the November 4th, 2019 edition of Northwest Monitor, where we take the pulse of the area from Sunset Country to the Lakehead.
This edition we explore the dangers of carbon monoxide, we find out about firefighters without borders, the journey of a former northwestern Ontario woman to become a Maxim model….it is not what you think, but first, are adults exercising enough?
It’s said all good things improve with age. But when it comes to exercise, that’s not always the case. Randy Thoms has that story.
November First officially marked the start of Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week 2019.
Known as the silent killer, carbon monoxide is a tasteless and odourless gas that can be deadly.
Also known simply as C – O, carbon monoxide is produced when fuels such as propane, gasoline, natural gas, heating oil or wood do not burn completely in fuel-burning appliances and devices such as furnaces, fireplaces, hot water heaters, stoves, barbecues, portable heaters, generators, and vehicles.
Stuart Walter sat down with Todd Skene, the City of Kenora’s Fire Chief, to discuss carbon monoxide and how you can help protect both you and your family.
You have heard about Doctors Without Border, and now an Ontario organization called Firefighters Without Borders is lending a helping hand to emergency officials in a local First Nation community.
As Mike Ebbeling tells us, the partnership is all about keeping residents safe.
This next segment features a story of a former northwestern Ontario woman who proved you never know where life will lead you. Sherry Navoy grew up in Thunder Bay, and her story of competing to be on the cover on an international men’s magazine has certainly made northern Ontario stand out to the world. Geoff Waterfield has the story.
That is another edition of Northwest Monitor. Check back here next week as we explore the stories that shape our region.
