Many members of the public gathered at Sioux North High School today to officially open the brand new Confederation College location at the High School.
Many speakers and guests came out to celebrate the opening of the new location including Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance.
The new facility has multiple classrooms including a computer lab, a health lab with realistic dummies for the nursing program as well as larger rooms for lectures and meetings.
The project was supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation with $1,050,000 as well as $350,000 from the Ministry of Colleges and University.
Multiple people spoke at the event including Campus Director Angelina Anderson
Anderson says she’s excited for the facility to open and help people in Sioux Lookout access post-secondary education without leaving their home community.
She also says the space is very modern and has been serving them well in meeting the needs of their students.
Following Anderson was Confederation College President Kathleen Lynch.
Lynch says students at the Sioux Lookout Campus will have access to state of the art education technologies with beautiful classrooms and spaces to meet student needs.
She also mentions that it expands on the college’s extensive history in Sioux Lookout as the college has been in the community for now 38 years.
Lynch also says it is important for the college to maintain a community presence which they help do with their partnership with Contact North.
From Contact North was the President and CEO Maxim Jean-Louis who also spoke about the connections they have to the college and northern communities.
Following the speakers was the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the brand new space.
