A new twist on the old scam.
Provincial Police say a number of people in the area have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be from a local police agency acting on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency.
OPP state the scam artist demands personal information,
Police say they don’t collect taxes on behalf of the government.
Police and the CRA will never ask for information about your passport, health card or driver’s license.
They will also never ask for payment by credit card, gift certificate or Internet, or use aggressive language threatening to arrest you, or leave threatening messages demanding payment.
