It was a nice evening at the Centre in Dryden on Wednesday as the Dryden Rotary Club presented their Paul Harris Fellow Awards.
The evening began with opening introductions, a word from the mayor, and a small talk about the continued effort of eradicating Polio around the world.
Following a nice dinner the show went to the stage as the Paul Harris Fellow awards were presented to a few Rotary Members.
Those members were Caryl Hron, Mardi Plomp, Rena Madden, Elaine Thompson and a memorial Fellow Award for the late Denis Belleville.
It was the first Fellow Award for Hron, the third for both Plomp and Madden and the fourth Fellow Award for Thompson.
Following that were the Community Honorees segment which gives Awards to members of the community for their outstanding community involvement.
One was presented to Melvin Fisher by Shayne MacKinnon who recognized Fisher’s work for 15 years in establishing a seniors housing complex and all the dedication it took to make the new and almost finished Timberland Estates a reality.
Another community honoree was Gary Nickle as he was recognized for his years of work towards getting a soccer complex built at Rotary Park and all the effort put towards bringing the community together and finding grants to make the building what it is today.
The final community honoree was Dr. Adam Moir for his continued involvement in many different facets of the community of Dryden including his involvement with local hockey, the Dryden Native Friendship Centre as well as his advocacy for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.
Moir says he is humbled and appreciates the award and he says he learned a lot about giving back to the community from his family.
Also throughout the show the piano was played by a couple of music students before they accepted their own awards for their success in music education.
The first to play was Danielle Henderson who was the Junior Student and the second to play was Erica Bowie who was the Intermediate Student.
Another Music award was handed out to the student with the highest mark.
That award is titled the “Rena Fotheringham Award” and it was presented to Danielle Henderson as she achieved a 91%.
