Dryden Councillor Martin MacKinnon is calling it a historic meeting.
MacKinnon and other community leaders in the Kenora District sat down with Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, the Grand Chief of Treaty #3 recently to discuss a number of concerns, including homelessness and substance abuse.
MacKinnon says “it is the first time all of the communities in the Kenora District Services Board area have sat at the same table and openly discussed the issues that are prevalent to us all.”
He stresses the current way of dealing with the problem isn’t working and they need to approach things as “a community of the whole.”
“A lot of it involves lobbying the provincial government and the federal government. There’s so many common goals there that we have to work at them together.”
