The new bench boss of the Red Lake Miners couldn’t have asked for a better debut.
Geoff Walker saw his team rally from a 3-1 deficit to storm back and stun the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 4-3 Saturday at the Memorial Arena.
Both teams looked good early with Dryden GM jumping out to the lead with goals from Malcolm Huemmert, Xavier Halterson and Nolan Marshall.
Dylan Winsor of Ear Falls had a pair of assists for the Ice Dogs.
However, the veteran Miners didn’t waver and scored three unanswered goals including one on the power play and a short handed goal.
Morgan Venne tied the game in the third, while Shaye Sommerfeld recorded the winner a short time later.
Ethan Stuckless and Red Lake’s Sean Gula also found the back of the net.
Dryden GM outshot Red Lake 37-35.
Zach Wilms picked up the victory, while Jacob Anthony suffered the loss.
The announced attendance was 785.
Both teams now have a week off.
In other SIJHL action, Thunder Bay defeated Wisconsin 6-3.
Fort Frances needed overtime to dispose of Thief River Falls 3-2.
