The MPP for Kiiwetinoong is urging the province to give young people the mental health supports they need.
Sol Mamakwa says Ford government cuts to education funding means less counsellors and mental health workers in schools.
The NDP Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Critic is asking for the harmful cuts to be reversed.
Mamakwa notes “young Indigenous people across Ontario are in a mental health crisis deepened by a lack of access to mental health services that are minimally available at best and non-existent at their worst.”
He says “any pilot program designed to reduce youth suicide must acknowledge and address the specific needs of Indigenous youth living in urban areas and in communities across the north.”
