The provincial government is taking steps to reduce the time it takes for victims of crime to access services and supports.
The PC’s are enhancing the existing Victim Quick Response Program.
Attorney General Doug Downey says no victim should wait to get help.
“Whatever it is. Counselling, safety measures like new alarms or motion sensors or medical or dental treatments. We want to make sure they are getting the tangible services quickly.”
Downey says “when victims of violent crime are experiencing unthinkable tragedy in the immediate aftermath, they should have quick access to the support they need. And with VQRP Plus, they will.”
Downey notes they will also be doubling the funding to better support victims.
The transition to the enhanced program will begin in October.
