Ontario’s Municipal Affairs Minister insists the provincial government is listening to the concerns of municipal leaders.
Steven Clark spoke to municipal reps gathered in Ottawa at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario meeting this week.
Clark says while they’ve moved quickly since coming to office a year ago, they have listened.
“We are committed to working in collaboration with municipalities as we modernize services,” says Clark. “Municipalities are critical partners to our government, and we will work with you to ensure that the transformation of programs and services is informed by your advice and daily realities.”
Clark identified a number of issues they’ve dealt with in the past year. He cited efforts to reduce red tape around housing, reducing the reporting burden required by municipalities, eliminating 94 reports while consolidating and simplifying 27 others, and providing financial assistance to deal with the legalization of cannabis.
“As our government tackles the big challenges ahead, the lines of communication will stay open. We’ll keep talking … and listening.”
Clark also noted since signing a partnership agreement with AMO last August, they’ve held 11 meetings to discuss shared priorities.
