Greg Wilson is looking to go back to the future.
The Mayor has brought forward a resolution to change the name from the City of Dryden back to the Town of Dryden.
The resolution will be debated at the August 26th Council meeting.
Wilson says we are a small community that has close proximity to the lakes, to camp, to shopping, to work from home, and the commute is very short.
He notes “When you think City, you think a little busier, a little bigger. And that’s good if you want to flex your economic muscles and say ‘hey we got some powers here, we are like a big City.”
Wilson says “When you think about the strengths that Dryden has, why people like to live here, the Town of Dryden seems to fit more than the City of Dryden.”
He adds “It speaks well of us if we walk humbly and call ourselves a Town. We don’t try and pretend that we’re a City and it’s something that, I think, most Drydenites would be comfortable with.”
Wilson doesn’t believe the move will impact any government funding.
Dryden was incorporated as a Town in 1910 and didn’t become incorporated as a City until 1998.
