The Dryden Regional Health Centre is teaming up with Firefly to increase its ability to respond to the current mental health needs of children and youth.
A new Child and Youth Mental Health Outreach worker will provide after-hours mental health response services to anyone under the age of 18.
Hospital Mental Health Manager Sheri McMenemy says the initiative is important since it helps fill a gap for after hour services.
The service is for anyone under the age of 18 and will be available Monday through Friday, between the hours of 3 in the afternoon to 11 at night.
McMenemy also says the hours aren’t set in stood, stating they can be adjusted if necessary.
She notes it’s a mobile service and will provide services at the hospital, youth centre, schools, within the home, and other safe locations within the community.
The goal is to reduce visits to the Emergency Department and Police Departments for mental health concerns.
