Provincial Police say the Methamphetamine trade in Ontario is on the rise.
Based on the number of busts, police say they’ve seen a 50% increase in the last five years.
Detective Staff Sergeant Lee Fulford says because of the use of toxic chemicals, these labs pose dangers to the public, police and the environment.
Fulford stresses the chemicals are flammable and highly corrosive.
He says there’s also an environmental risk, noting six kilograms of waste is generated for every kilogram of meth produced.
Fulford says labs are being found in all kinds of settings, including basements of houses, vacant industrial buildings, farm properties, barns, sheds and rural areas.
He stresses they rely on public tips to carry out their busts.
