The Mayor of Machin continues to survey the damage from Wednesday’s torrential rainfall.
Gordon Griffiths is reporting flooding and significant damage to a large number of roads.
Griffiths says “straight through this area we got a horrific amount of rain. We could have handled the volume of water, just not in that short period of time. That’s what did the damage.”
He stresses the focus now is trying to reach five homes that are inaccessible right now.
Griffiths notes operations are being hindered due to three road washouts to the area.
A State of Emergency has been declared and the municipality has activated its Emergency Operations Centre.
