A Bombardier Chief Executive Officer is hopeful they’ll be able to find more work for their Thunder Bay plant.
550 employees are being laid off in November as the company’s two major contracts end.
David Van der Wee says they are working on finalizing an order for 36 bi-levels with Metrolinx.
Van der Wee notes “If we secure the 36, that keeps us going. And then we have a conversation with TTC about options for the LRV’s. And then that will have some kind of continuity. And then we continue that discussion to refill the pipeline.”
He says talks with Toronto have been on-going.
He adds “With the good will of all the different players, bring the people together to develop a solution. I still remain optimistic, optimistic that we can still have a future here.”
