The Municipality of Red Lake has declared a State of Emergency to assist residents of Pikangikum First Nation with their evacuation efforts.
The community will act as a transportation hub for some roughly 2,200 individuals who are fleeing the First Nation from wildfires.
The purpose of the declaration is to ensure that costs incurred as a result of the assistance is reimbursed by both levels of government.
Mayor Fred Mota says they will assist residents of Pikangikum in any way possible and will make every effort to ensure a smooth transition to their host communities.
