The federal government is already working on implementing some of the recommendations from the final report from the national Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Kenora Bob Nault says part of the conversation is improved basic infrastructure in First Nations communities.
Nault says “better food, better quality of life. All of the things that we were talking about when we were in Shoal Lake #40 and that’s one of the things we’ve committed ourselves, to do a better job of building communities into modern communities.”
Nault adds establishing additional shelters in area communities is among the priorities.
The Liberal representative says the Trudeau government will be putting a national plan in place, and that it will be released very soon.
However, he notes the final report includes recommendations for province’s and Indigenous communities on how they can help aboriginal women and girls escape domestic violence.
The report includes a total of 230 recommendations.
