An opportunity to gain skills on problem solving and creativity for young students in the region.
Lillian Berg School was the host site for the Lego League Robotics Friendly competition.
Principal Doris St. Jules and First Lego League spokesperson Peggy Scott state that elementary students from Vermilion Bay, Red Lake and Ear Falls took part.
Scott says students were required to complete a project on how to solve a problem in space and also build and code a Lego robot to complete various missions.
Missions included moving satellites, carrying astronauts, crater crossing, lifting levers and adjusting solar panels.
St. Jules calls their work “phenomenal”, noting they learned a lot about outer space and coding.
The students also enjoyed the interactive experience.
Hailey Mireault says “We got to build the missions beforehand and we got to learn about them before we had to compete”.
Emily Smith says “I liked how we got to code robots and it’s not everyday that you get to do that. I liked that we got to share our skills with other schools and learn new things.”
Alexis Woods notes “I got to learn how to program and build a Lego robot.”
This was the first year of the event and was made possible with help from the Vermilion Bay Lion’s Club, TD Bank and Qualcomm.
