Provincial Police are reporting an alarming increase of opioid overdoses and deaths across Ontario.
The “Opioids and Overdoses: Impact and Strategies” report identified a 35% increase in overdose deaths during the first quarter of 2019, compared to the same time last year.
Since September 2018, the OPP has administered naloxone on 79 occasions and saved 73 lives.
The highest number of naloxone doses were handed out in March and April of this year.
OPP stress the report allows them to be more proactive in addressing the crisis, stating every overdose occurrence will be thoroughly investigated.
