Scott Patrick Norman
June 27, 1967 – April 8, 2018
One of the breed of great outdoorsmen, Scott Norman, passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre after a very short, but hard-fought battle with cancer – the one thing in this life that he wasn’t able to wrestle into submission.
Scott was a true and loyal friend, a hard-worker, a tough boss and a much-loved father, husband, son, brother and nephew. He was quick with a joke, a snippet of a song, a wise-crack remark or some hard-earned advice about life. He was the “go-to guy” when you needed to know how to do something, how to repair something, or when you needed some advice, comfort and peace of mind.
Scott was born in Dryden and chose to live here for his 50 years.
He graduated from Dryden High School in 1985 where he developed a love for playing football – something he passed on to his sons. A few years later, he attended the Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, NB where he graduated with a diploma in Forestry Technology. Scott spent most of his adult working career employed in the forestry and transportation sectors. Over the years he worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Fedorchuk Masonry, Weyerhaeuser, Raleigh Falls Timber, Mintech, the Ministry of Transportation, Resolute Forest Products and most recently for Solomon’s & Sons as their Shop Foreman.
With such a variety of employment, he had a wide-range of work colleagues and friends. Scott’s piece of heaven here on earth was his trapline on Mickle Lake. This was the place where his passion for fishing, hunting and trapping fur and minnows was enjoyed. It offered him both solitude and a place of escape where hard work and shenanigans were held in equal esteem.
Scott is survived by his wife of 18 years, Liz and his two sons, Gary and Jacob. He is also survived by his mother, Patsy Norman, his mother and father-in-law, Ursula and Mike Szell, his sister, Kelly Griffiths (Roger) and his three nieces, Alison, Valerie and Charlotte, and his sister-in-law, Michelle Hourie (Trevor).
He was predeceased by his father, Gary Norman and his baby daughter, Rachel.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Dryden Royal Canadian Legion with Rev. Michael Bergman officiating.
Interment of ashes will be held in the Wabigoon Cemetery at a later date.
