It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert (Gil) Craik Coutts announce his passing on July 13, 2015 at Princess Court Long Term Care Home. Gilbert was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada at an early age. He grew up in the Oxdrift/Minnitaki areas and worked as a farm hand at several area farms. In 1939 he joined the Canadian Army and saw action with the Winnipeg Rifles on D-Day. He was captured several days after the D-Day invasion and spent eleven months as a POW. After the war he returned to Dryden and began working for the Dryden Paper Company. He married Winnifred Evans and they raised four boys. He retired from the mill in 1982 and had a long and healthy retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, curling and the camp on Eagle Lake. He had a big soft spot for his four grandchildren who he would do anything for. Gilbert’s family would like to thank the staff at Princess Court and Dr. Cortens for the never ending support and care. A Memorial Funeral Service and Royal Canadian Legion Veteran’s Service to celebrate the life of Gilbert will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in First United Church with Alice Bloomfield officiating. Interment of ashes will follow in the Dryden Cemetery. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Princes Court Long Term Care Home or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 through Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca
