New Prospect School showcased its Hockey Canada Skills Academy program Thursday in front of a boisterous crowd at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
The Grade 7 and 8 students took part in the first ever “Dangler Cup” in front of fellow students, school staff and parents.
Kaden Boss and Colby Lapointe are involved in the program.
Lapointe stresses the program has really helped develop his skills.
Lapointe says the game was a lot of fun and it was great to play with his friends and play an awesome sport.
Boss says his skills have improved because of the program, stressing he’s become a better shooter.
Boss and Lapointe thanked their instructors Bill Reid, Brett Lobreau and Randy Allen for their leadership and helping them develop both on and off the ice.
They also joked about getting to miss time in the classroom in exchange for playing the game they love.
The exhibition, fun game was aimed at promoting the program and the benefits that surround it.
The two teams were coached by New Prospect Principal Kelly Schollie and Vice-Principal Ryan Graham.
Before the game, Dryden Kinsmen presented a $500 cheque to participants to help off-set the costs of the jersey’s.
New Prospect also partnered with CKDR and Shaw Cable to help teach four students broadcasting skills, both behind the camera and on the microphone.
