Some local support for the world-wide ShelterBox program.
Dryden’s Kendra Saville has become an ambassador for the initiative and is now in charge of raising more awareness and funding for the program.
Saville addressed Dryden Rotary Wednesday and says she joined because she has driving need to help people who need help.
Saville has been with the provincial Forest Fire Management Centre for 20-years and says she was inspired to make a difference by an air attack officer she was working with in Slave Lake, Alberta.
She says it was his response of “you have to keep doing your job and help the people that still have a chance to save their home”.
The comments came after he lost his very own home.
The ShelterBox provides shelter, emergency services and resources to those who are left homeless due to natural disasters or conflicts around the world.
Dryden Rotary was inspired by Saville’s presentation and helped support ShelterBox with a $2,800 donation which was raised by the October 2017 Mudmen concert in Dryden.
