After months of crunching the numbers, the City of Dryden has finally passed its 2025 budget.
It calls for a 2.33 percent increase.
Councillor Katherine Kiewning says it’s quite an accomplishment, considering where they started.
“So, we went from almost 12 percent to 2.33 percent,” Kiewning remarked at the council meeting Monday night.
“I mean, I commend you, that’s a huge drop, especially since we did request as a council, to have no services impacted.”
Treasurer Steven Lansdell Roll says there is one main reason why they were able to reduce the tax rate.
“Part of that though, and I’m not going to take credit, would be the lobbying efforts that our mayor and members council and our CEO had with the province regarding our policing impacts, and securing $1.28 million.”
But the increase is still too much according to Dryden resident Cathy Hutchison.
She made a deputation to council demanding a lower tax hike.
