The Sioux Lookout Bombers are preparing for their first appearance at the Centennial Cup junior A hockey championships.
The Bombers swept the Kam River Fighting Walleye in four games one week ago.
Coach Carson Johnstone says they’ve been busy preparing their players for the national championships in Oakville.
“We had a little bit of time off…they had a few days, but we’ve been back on the ice, trying to stay in shape,” confirms Johnstone.
“We just don’t want to fall into a bit of a lull, because if you’re not on the ice for a little to long it can be tough to bounce back.”
Johnstone adds the support from the community has been incredible.
“We’ve got unbelievable fan support. We’ve had full buildings all playoff long, in fact all year long. We’ve had a few events out in the community. People coming out to take pictures and show their support. Obviously we’re very pleased. It’s been nice to see the support of the community.”
The Bombers first game is May 9th against the Winkler Flyers, the winners of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
