The Northwestern Ontario Prospectors Association (NWOPA) is honouring some of its own.
It handed out its annual awards during the Ontario Prospectors Association’s (OPA) Exploration Showcase in Thunder Bay.
Pam Coles, the Chief Geophysicist at Abitibi Geophysics, has been presented with the Association’s Dan Calvert Distinguished Service Award.
Coles was cited for her role in establishing the company’s office in Thunder Bay.
She holds board positions with the NWOPA and the Ontario Prospectors Association.
She has also served as chair of the Women in Mining Northwestern Ontario.
Last Resort Resources, Bounty Gold and Beyond Lithium earned the Bernie Scheiders Discovery of the Year award for their work on the Victory Lithium project, located 40 km east of Kenora.
Don Bubar was posthumously awarded the Dave Christianson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bubar founded Avalon Resources in 1994, later becoming Avalon Advanced Mineral, and served as its president and Chief Executive Officer until last year.
He was an early advocate of meaningful consultation with First Nations and assisted in the development of the Prospector and Developer’s Association of Canada’s (PDAC) Indigenous Affairs Committee.
Bubar was also instrumental in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between PDAC and the Assembly of First Nations.
