Laila Irene Tracy
Laila Irene Tracy, age 90, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Laila was born in Thunder Bay on June 21, 1933 to Tyko and Martha Peltola. She was their first child and attended a local school to become an excellent secretary.
Laila married Vernon Tracy, the love of her life, on August 10, 1950 and together they raised 3 children in Dryden, Ontario. Laila enjoyed curling, golf and was a very good bowler. She sewed and knitted items that were donated to the local hospital, loved to cook and bake, and was an active member of the Dryden Lutheran Church. Once their children were older, Laila and Vernon moved out to their house on Wabigoon Lake and went on many holidays to explore Canada and the US. Sadly, Vernon died at age 62 and Laila was alone for many years until she met Tom Button who became a dear friend and companion until his death in 2019.
Laila will be deeply missed by her daughter, Gwen Tracy, sons Jim Tracy (Sharon), and Roger Tracy (Holly); her brother Allan Peltola (Marion); 5 grandchildren: Christopher Cizauskas, Nicholas Cizauskas (Kate), Dale Tracy (Kris), Jade Smith (Brad) and Carli Peterson (Jeff); and 3 great grandchildren, Torie and Brandi Peterson and Jessica Cizauskas.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Vernon Tracy, parents Martha and Tyko, brother Paul, and sister Aileen.

Cremation has taken place and no service will be held. A private family gathering will be planned for a later date.
