Vera Kaiser sends along this picture of her dad – Joel Lindquist on the left, and her uncle – Stan Lindquist on the right.
The picture was taken in England during WW2, and was the only time the brothers met while overseas – despite being in the same sector of Juno Beach on D-Day!
Joel Lindquist enlisted in the Winnipeg Rifles in 1942, and served in the ‘8th Infantry Brigade’ as a Signalman, serving in England, France, Holland and Germany. The 8th landed in the “Nan” sector of Juno Beach on D-Day, along with the Fort Gary Tanks.
Unknown to either of the brothers, Stan was also in the Nan Sector, part of the Manitoba Dragoons. He was badly burned in August of 1944 when his Staghound armored car was shelled and set on fire.
Joel was hospitalized with Tonsillitis after the war ended and didn’t get home until February 1949
Stan was home for Christmas of 1945, as was a third brother, Arvid.
