Bert Ferguson was the eldest son of George and Maggie Ferguson. He was born in Dryden in 1920, shortly after his parents had arrived from Scotland. Bert was educated in Dryden and after the outbreak of WW11, he enlisted in the Lake Superior Regiment and served in Europe.
Bert returned to Dryden for a short while following WW11 but soon chose to re-enlist. He served with the Canadian army in Korea during that war. Following his time in Korea Bert was stationed in Germany for a few years. He then returned to Canada with postings in Ottawa, London, St. John’s and Vancouver. In between those postings Bert participated in UN Peacekeeping missions in Cyprus as well as in the Gaza Strip.
He retired with the rank of Major.
Bert and his wife Beryl had three children – Ian Ferguson, Fiona St. Jean, and Georgina Jones. Both Ian and Georgina are also veterans. Ian was a lieutenant in the RCN and Georgina was a Colonel in the RCAF.
