John Murray Ferguson , better known as Jack was born in New Pitligo Scotland. During World War 1 he served with the Scots Guards and saw action on the Battlefields of Belgium and France . Although he never rose above the rank of Private, Jack had a very distinguished service record. For his actions on the battlefield he was “Mentioned in Dispatches” on at least three occasions and was awarded The Distinguished Conduct Medal, the Military Medal, and the Croix de Guerre (from the French Government).
Following the war, Jack left Scotland and came to Dryden, joining younger brother George. On 19 September, 1929 while walking along the railway tracks just west of Dryden, he was struck on the head by an object protruding from a passing train and killed.
Jack and his wife Mabel had no children.
