Treaty Three Police Service is receiving support from the province for Operation Eagle Eye.
The program places surveillance cameras in areas where gun and gang violence, illegal drug activity and human trafficking are prevalent.
The department is receiving $55 thousand to expand the program.
The money will allow for the purchase of more cameras and replace existing equipment with more up-to-date technology.
“Our government is dedicated to the safety and security of all Ontarians, including residents and families in the northwest,” states Greg Rickford, Member of Provincial Parliament for Kenora – Rainy River, in a release. “Through targeted investments in the Ontario Closed Circuit Television Grant Program, we are ensuring our community is better protected against the threat of crime and violence.”
