Atlas Holdings has announced the closing of its deal to purchase Resolute’s pulp and paper operations in Thunder Bay.
The acquisition by Atlas was first revealed at the end of May, at a cost of USD $218.6 million in cash.
This comes as a requirement from Canada’s Competition Bureau, over Domtar’s purchase of Resolute Forest Products, which the agency found would have given the company a monopsony in the region, with facilities in Dryden and Thunder Bay.
Atlas Holdings is a group of 26 manufacturing and distribution businesses, founded in 2002.
It owns assets in several sectors including automotive, construction, energy, food and beverage, and packaging.
The mill will now operate under the name Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper.
