Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has been slowly adding to it’s full-time complement.
In the past month, two new fire fighters have been added.
Dexter Hupe has been hired as the Deputy Fire Chief and says he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“In this capacity I’m supporting the fire chief, and the overall operations of the fire department,” Hupe said after being introduced at the city council meeting last week.
“I’m just learning and understanding my role at this point, and going forward I’ll be supports and assisting chief Pratt.”
Hupe says he’s worked for a number of fire departments in northwestern Ontario over the last few years.
“Originally I’m from Kakabeka Falls just outside Thunder Bay. From there I went to be the training officer for the for the City of Dryden and recently I was the fire chief and CEMC (Community Emergency Management Coordinator) for the Municipality of Red Lake before coming to this beautiful city.”
The post has been vacant since December of last year after the Dave Pratt was promoted to fire chief with the departure of Kent Readman.
