Domtar is looking to strengthen some of its shoreline.
Crews will start work next week along the west bank of the Wabigoon River that runs near the Dryden mill.
Spokesperson Bonny Skene says it is a low-lying area, and the work is precautionary.
“With the very high floodwaters that everyone experienced last spring, it caused us to take a look around and think about what could and should we do to prevent something from eroding, should conditions like that occur again in the future. Those conditions did not cause a problem last year, but we’re just wanting to err on the side of caution,” says Skene
The work will include placing rock and a geo-textile material along the shoreline.
Skene says the work is being conducted with all of the required permits from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
“Our authorized window for doing the work is from mid-July until late August. So, people will see some activity along that shoreline through the upcoming weeks.”
