The Dryden Lions’ annual Ice Fishing Derby won’t be taking place in 2023.
Head Lion Todd Kropelin says this year’s event on Wabigoon Lake had to be cancelled due to unsafe ice conditions in the area. The decision was made at the Dryden Lions’ meeting on February 13.
The annual catch and release tournament is a fundraiser for the Dryden Food Bank, and prizes are always available for local anglers. 76 people took part in last year’s tournament.
Kropelin notes the Lions will be hosting a free family skate day on March 11 at the Dryden Memorial Arena. From 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., families will be able to enjoy the ice as well as balloons, popcorn and slushies.
