The MP for Kenora will play an important role in the new Conservative Shadow Cabinet.
Party leader Pierre Poilievre introduced his changes today (Wednesday).
Eric Melillo has been named Shadow Minister for Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario.
He will also serve as Deputy Shadow Minister for Crown-Indigenous Relations.
Melillo says he’s excited to continue in role as FedNor critic and take a more hands-on approach with Crown-Indigenous Relations.
He has been the FedNor critic since 2020 and has regularly criticized the government for ineffective spending, unclear guidelines, and the need to improve programming for those in the region.
Melillo says, “When it comes to my new role as Deputy Shadow Minister for Crown-Indigenous Relations, I’m eager to continue advancing reconciliation, and advocating for the systemic changes needed within
Ottawa’s relationship with Indigenous peoples, and communities.”
He adds, “I’ve appreciated the opportunity I’ve had to advocate for Northern Ontario and look forward to continuing that work alongside our new Conservative Shadow Cabinet.
Melillo met with Pierre Poilievre in late September for a one-on-one meeting.
He didn’t vote for the new leader but stresses the entire caucus is unified around his leadership.
Melillo says they talked about some of the issues that were important to this riding and northwestern Ontario in general like health care and infrastructure gaps and affordability issues.
