The MP for the Kenora Riding believes Canada should get rid of all COVID-19 travel mandates.
Eric Melillo says unfortunately our country isn’t following the rest of the world when it comes to testing travelers.
“Canada really remains an outlier in the G-7 in terms of the COVID-19 restrictions,” says Melillo.
“It seems like the science we’re following here is different than the science that all of our allies are utilizing, and that’s the frustration that we’re experiencing.”
Earlier this month, the Canadian government indicated it would continue testing requirements for
international travelers until at least the end of September.
That’s decision Melillo says is unnecessary.
“We’re seeing most other countries around the world moving on, moving away from these mandates and I think that’s the direction we should be going as well.”
Foreign travelers will still need to provide proof of being fully vaccinated to enter the country and unvaccinated Canadians or permanent residents will need to provide a molecular COVID-19 test taken prior to entering and quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
