The Dryden Yacht Club is hoping to get more young people interested in sailing.
A Learn 2 Sail clinic is being held July 18 to 22.
The sessions are for ages 7 and up.
Spokesperson Bonny Skene says, “Sessions will run from 9:00 am to noon or from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and it’s every day next week. We’re doing it in partnership with Sail Manitoba. They have a mobile sailing school that travels through the region and through Manitoba.”
Skene says participants will learn some of the basics.
“The training will focus on water safety, how to handle a sail boat, the kids will get out on the water and spend a lot of time with hands on learning. It brings a really fun energy to the waterfront and we hope people will consider it and sign-up.”
The cost is $100 per person for the entire week and you can register at Sail Manitoba.
Skene says, “It’s a great leisure activity. It’s a lifetime sport. No age limit. It’s just something that is really, we think, a natural fit in this area because of all of the water we have.”
Skene adds anyone from the community is welcome to attend and watch the kids try their hand at sailing.
