A big boost to medical care in Red Lake.
The Margaret Cochenour Hospital Foundation held its Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Auction this past weekend and the event was sold-out.
The fundraising goal was shattered with $236,725 coming in.
The funds will be used to purchase ultrasound equipment to replace the aging machine that is currently in use.
The rest of the money will be directed toward equipment for the laboratory.
Foundation Chair Marion Whitton says, “We had hoped to raise the funds for the ultrasound equipment over the next two years, but we have the money in this one weekend because of the generosity of the community. We are so grateful to everyone who donated to this cause.”
The Foundation received a special gift of $125,000 made in memory of former RLMC Hospital Foundation Board member, Terry Bursey, by her family and friends: Ian Russell, Lachlan Smith, Bob Singh, Crystal and Jeremy McCullough, Chris Taylor and Rimini Exploration and Consulting Ltd.
Terry Bursey was Chair of the hospital board for six years and a long-time donor to the Foundation.
Her husband, Ian Russell stated, “A gift to the Foundation and the community is the best way we can honour Terry’s memory; the hospital and the community were very close to her heart and this is what she would have wanted.”
Evolution Mining Red Lake also donated $25,000.
