Hydro One is improving power reliability and resiliency in the Vermilion Bay area.
Maintenance work is being completed at the local Distribution Station this weekend.
As a result roughly 1,051 Hydro One customers in the Vermilion Bay area will be without power from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Sunday.
Crews will be completing upgrades, replacing broken crossarms as well as trimming or removing hazardous trees that could cause power outages, create unsafe working conditions and impact public safety.
A statement reads, “With much of Hydro One’s electricity system built in the 1950’s and 1960’s, the company must continue to renew or replace critical infrastructure in almost every community across the province.”
Below are some tips to help you and your family during an outage:
-Make sure your appliances, such as the stove, are in the off position.
-Make sure your cell phone and extended battery packs are fully charged.
-Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. Use a cooler with ice for items you’ll need during the planned outage.
-If your water services will be affected, consider filling jugs of water to use for drinking and cooking.
-If you plan to use a generator, remember to use it in a dry area outdoors away from any open windows, doors and vents. Visit the Electrical Safety Authority at esasafe.com for more tips.
-If your water services will be affected and you have a bathtub, consider filling it with water before the planned outage begins. You can use the water and a bucket to fill your toilet tank to be able to flush.
