A convincing win has put the Red Lake Miners into the Bill Salonen Cup.
Hometown hero Jordan Baranesky was a one man wrecking crew as he scored four times, one an empty-netter, and assisted on Ryan Howe’s goal as the Miners defeated the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 5-1 Easter Sunday at the Memorial Arena.
Baranesky could have had five goals but was denied by Eric Clark on a penalty shot in the third.
Howe also failed on a penalty shot.
Dryden GM played without Brady Frattinger who received a two game suspension for a hit to the head in Game 5.
The energetic and talented forward joined captain Cameron Ware on the sideline, leaving Dryden without their top two players.
Their absence was evident as the Ice Dogs couldn’t get things going several times throughout the game.
Dryden GM was also victimized by hitting the post on two occassions.
Tristan Takats scored the lone Dryden GM goal, as he raced out of the penalty box, accepting a pass from Ondrej Bardos, putting the puck through the legs of Kiev Kineshanko on a breakaway.
The rookie Miners goalie did make 25 saves.
Cole Johnston started for Dryden GM allowing all four goals and stopping 28 shots.
He was relieved by Clark who was solid with 12 saves.
Red Lake takes the Semi-Final series 4-2.
The Miners will face the Kam River Fighting Walleye in the SIJHL Final.
