The Screen for Life Coach is ready to hit the road once again.
The mobile cancer screening service will first roll into Ignace April 5-7 and will be in Dryden from April 8 to the 19.
Coordinator Vanessa Masters outlines who should take advantage of the free program:
-Breast Cancer Screening: The Screen for Life Coach offers digital mammography and is affiliated with the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP). The OBSP is Ontario’s breast cancer screening program for women between the ages of 50 and 74 years. This should be done every two years. The Screen for Life Coach mammography unit and medical radiation technologists meet all performance and quality criteria for the Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography Accreditation Program.
-Cervical Cancer Screening:
Anyone with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 70 years, who have ever been sexually active, can have their cervical cancer screening performed by a registered nurse on the Screen for Life Coach. This should be done every three years.
-Colon Cancer Screening: Anyone can book an appointment on the Screen for Life Coach to get a take-home colon cancer screening kit from a registered nurse. You are eligible for take-home kit if you are between the ages of 50 and 74 years with no first-degree family history (parent, sibling or child) of colon cancer. This should be done every two years.
Masters stresses, “If you get screened for cancer and cancer is detected early it usually means there’s a better chance of treating that cancer.”
You don’t need a referral from a health care provider to access services on the Coach.
Bookings are encouraged and for more information call (807) 684-7777.
