The Dryden Fire Service had to deal with a large house fire in the downtown core Friday night.
The blaze occurred on Duke Street and destroyed a residence.
It was located near Safeway.
Dryden Fire Service has released the following statement:
At approximately 9:50 pm on Friday, March 18th Dryden Fire Service was dispatched to reports of a working structure fire on Duke Street. Upon arrival, the home was fully involved with all occupants out of the home. Dryden Fire Service quickly initiated a defensive attack protecting nearby exposures. The structure quickly collapsed causing damage to the gas meter, preventing crews from shutting off the valve. In a combined effort with Enbridge Gas, City of Dryden Public Works Roads & Water as well as OPP, crews located and shut off the gas distribution Valve causing outages for 37 homes in the area. Crews worked through the night and cleared the scene at approximately 5:00 am this morning. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Enbridge Gas has restored service to the majority of homes. If your gas has been shut off and you require additional information regarding reconnection, please contact Enbridge Gas. I would like to thank all members of Dryden Fire Service and our partners for your valiant efforts on this incident.
