It was an emotional Saturday night at the Dryden Memorial Arena Saturday as the GM Ice Dogs met up with the Lakers.
Fort Frances agreed to play Dryden’s Hometown/Our Pack contest as COVID restrictions prevented original opponent Red Lake from participating.
The game was all about hometown hockey but was also in honour of a young player with the Sioux North Warriors who recently passed away.
A special tribute was held as Sioux Lookout coaches, players, staff and fans gathered to pay tribute.
The game was a true sign of solidarity and a showcase of one of the best hockey rivalries in Canada.
When the dust settled, the Ice Dogs held off the Lakers 3-1 in front of some 800 fans.
Maxime Collette, Brady Frattinger and Tristan Takats all scored second period goals to secure the victory.
Cole Johnston made several timely saves in the third when Dryden GM ran into penalty trouble to finish with 22 saves.
