A financial boost for Dryden’s Milestone Park.
The City of Dryden is on the receiving end of 185 thousand dollars through the Ontario Community Building Fund to upgrade and renovate the sport surface.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford was in town Thursday to make the announcement.
“Milestone Park is an essential feature of so many different activities, ice hockey right now, basketball, tennis and of course pickle ball is all the rage. So, this is going to be a multi-use, multi-generational facility and our government is proud to support it.”
Rickford stresses he’s committed to families and seniors having active lives and having good places to go to do those activities.
Community Services Manager Steve Belanger explains they will start by laying new asphalt and adjusting boards.
“We’ve got a professional tennis court developer who’s going to come in to paint the entire play surface, including four pickle ball courts and one tennis court. We’ll also be looking at a lighter colour so that when we get sunny days, it’s not shining down on black asphalt and melting the ice in the winter months. This will ensure we can carry the ice longer in the winter time and it looks fantastic and promotes the growth of tennis and pickle ball in Dryden.”
Belanger adds it’s a great investment for an active space that community members of all ages can use year round at no cost.
Work will begin in May once all the snow is melted.
