One of the planned mines for northwestern Ontario will be for lithium.
Frontier Lithium has two sizable deposits just northwest of North Spirit Lake First Nation it hopes to begin mining within four to six years.
During a recent mining conference, President Trevor Walker sees the company benefitting from the high demand for lithium.
“The increased buy-in around the EV (Electric Vehicles) technology, we’ve seen, you know, roughly 30 percent annual growth over the last five years,” says Walker.
Walker says they feel there are enough resources for at least thirty years of operation.
“That’s why building a mine, mill, and downstream chemical plant, ideally situated in Ontario somewhere on the Great Lakes. It’s quite a robust project. It’s roughly $800 million to build the fully integrated.”
Walker says an update on the resource and a pre-feasibility study are both planned for the early parts of 2022.
