The Northern Ontario men’s and ladies Curling Playdowns are still going ahead in Kenora, despite the rise in COVID-19 cases.
Tracy Stasiuk is a member of the organizing committee and says they did have to make some adjustments for attendance at the event.
“Right now everything is still a go,” explains Stasiuk. “We are at 50 percent capacity at the Kenora Rec. Center. We can get about 600 fans in there, so ticket sales are happening. You can buy currently tickets for the full event for $100. That gets you into every one of the round-robin games and the semis and final on the weekend.”
The winners of the men’s and women’s divisions will appear in the Briar and Scotties Tournament of Hearts respectively later this winter.
In the men’s division, the area is represented by the Josh Szajewski rink from Keewatin while Crystal Taylor is curling for Team McCormick from Stratton.
Former Brier Champion Brad Jacobs and Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay, who has appeared several times at the Scottie Tournament of Hearts, are among the teams that will curl at the Kenora rink.
The schedule for the men’s and women’s draw has been completed and playdowns begin on January 5th through the 9th.
