A unique partnership is connecting literacy to those in need in the Dryden area.
Domtar has once again partnered with First Book Canada to bring books and educational tools to families and Clients of the Kenora District Services Board.
With the donation from Domtar, the Kenora District Services Board will be able to acquire books and educational resources to support literacy and help remove learning barriers for children.
“We want to thank Domtar and First Book Canada for their generosity and recognizing the importance of engaging in reading and literacy-related activities as a family. Through KDSB’s Early Learning Programs, over 75 families that take part in programming in Dryden will benefit from this generous gift of brand-new books. This will promote the value of literacy to families and children of all ages. Considering the adverse impacts that the global COVID-19 pandemic has had on our communities, providing the opportunity to read as a family is vital in improving a child’s literacy skills and development.” says Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer of the Kenora District Services Board.
Domtar partners with First Book annually by granting funds to organizations in the community to purchase the materials they need for their clientele.
“We are so pleased to be continuing this partnership with First Book Canada which benefits so many,” says Marie Cyr, Domtar’s General Manager. “Supporting literacy initiatives in our operating communities is an important part of our community involvement program. Seeing the joy in the eyes of the children who receive these books is priceless, particularly at this festive time of year.”
The First Book and Domtar partnership has benefited a number of organizations since 2013, including at various community events like Dryden Fall Fest.
